A Note From Fr. Thomas
My dear friends in Christ, today we celebrate the wonderful solemnity of Pentecost, that day when God the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and the Blessed Mother in the Upper Room. What I love about Acts 2:1-11 is that the Holy Spirit didn’t come upon them as a soft, gentle breeze. Rather, “suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were.” They were literally filled with the Holy Spirit, and from that Upper Room they were sent to the ends of the earth to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The fact that the apostles went forth, filled with the Holy Spirit, is very important. God the Holy Spirit isn’t some stagnant force in the universe… God the Holy Spirit is the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified! Like the apostles, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we too are sent to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in our words and deeds. Those of us who are confirmed should especially take this to heart… when we were sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit on our confirmation day, we were sent on a mission.
Speaking of being sent, I recently received a letter from Bishop Kettler. On June 29th, I will be starting my new assignment as parochial vicar of the parishes of St. Henry in Perham, Holy Cross in Butler, Sacred Heart in Dent, and St. Lawrence in Rush Lake. It’s been great to serve you at the parishes of St. Michael and St. Joseph, as well as the whole ACC, and I have really enjoyed my time here. It was a great first assignment as a priest, and I am grateful to all of your prayers and encouraging support.
I’ll be around until the end of June, so I hope to bump into many of you before I head north for this new adventure. I would humbly ask that you keep me in your prayers, that I might have the courage to follow the Holy Spirit wherever He leads.
